the one with an average guy's gift guide

So apparently not everyone thinks as forwardly and eccentrically as I do...I'm shocked. While I have received lots of compliments in regards to my style, I have had quite a few people tell me their husband/boyfriend/brother [not all the same person, hopefully] is not as stylish as I am. Let me correct you--style is a matter of personal opinion, and everyone's is different. Just because someone doesn't wear designer jeans and Gucci loafers doesn't mean there is a lack of style.. So hopefully you can grab a few of these gifts to make your guy a little bit more stylish version of himself...

1. Jesus Calling. I use this devotional every single day [that I don't forget]. If I do forget, I will do two days at once. It's like Jesus is actually talking to you. It always relates to me in some way. If you have never used this, stop what you are doing right now and order it. I have had my copy for over two years now, and I just continue to do it each year. It's a daily devotional that I highly recommend. And let's face it--Jesus is always in style..

2. Cutting Board. I have suggested a cutting board in the past, but they are like coats to me--you can't have too many. I would use this as a cheese board or a display piece...and girls you will benefit from this too..You can display it in your kitchen [in the event you and your husband share the same last name]. You can get your name, monogram, or just a single initial...

3. Cole Haan. These are my go-to, everyday loafers. Let me tell you why-I can wear them straight from the office [my classroom] to a night out. I even wear them with a light-colored suit in the summer [if the event is casual--never wear a light suit to a wedding/event after 6:30, and never button the bottom button of your suit jacket--ever.] They can be worn with jeans, chinos, shorts in the summer [with no socks]...They are a good loafer that I really like.

4. Mountain Khaki. I understand that some guys don't like slim fitting chinos. I think that's fine. There are days that I don't wear the 484 Fit from J. Crew [but only a few]. These are also very versatile. I don't know that I would wear these out to dinner, but for sure on the weekend--hanging out, to a football game, or to work.. The perfect casual weekend look for me is pairing these pants with a long sleeve tee, that red hat, and that blue vest with either the loafers or chukka boots.

5. J. Crew. You know I had to throw something in from J. Crew. This is a basic, cool sweater. Even my Dad has this. I like to pair it with a long sleeved button down [like the Vineyard Vines, shown]. Or you can wear it with just a white t-shirt underneath [or red if you want to be a little different..].

6. Levi. These are my favorite jeans. I have jeans that are all shapes, all sizes, all styles, and all prices. These are the jeans I go to the most and they are the least expensive. I actually got mine in the Levi's store in NYC. I have had a few pairs of Levi's but this is my favorite fit--527. It's called a "slim" boot, but don't let the name scare you away..Levi's tend to have a more generous fit, so their "slim" is not that slim. They actually still run bigger...Typically, I wear a 32, but I bought a 30 in this style.

7. Old Fashioned Doubles . Kelly bought these for me a few years ago for Christmas, and I love them. They are very reasonably priced and are very cool. I use them more for drinking water than whiskey, but I still like them...

8.  Polo Hat When one has as large of a dome as I have, then most hats do not fit correctly. I really like the way these Polo hats fit. I know I will sound crazy when I say this, but it will not be the first or last time that happens. I swear that only certain colors fit me: Red, Khaki, and White. All the others are too small.

9. Brand Who wouldn't love this? Brand your meat! Ok, ouch, but you know-steaks. Heat this thing up and stamp you meat...doesn't get less awkward. I think you can even brand a cutting board too. This one is from Williams-Sonoma, and will be a great conversation piece when you have company and they say "My meat has your name on it..." that's what she said....

10. Patagonia. I love Patagonia almost as much as I love J. Crew. I have this vest and I love it. I actually have it in black and green, and think I may spring for the blue too. It's perfect to throw on and goes with everything--no need to try to match it as that is dorky.

11. Vineyard Vines.A good shirt, a good color, just good--I am a sucker for gingham. This would be really good under the vest [of any color] with those Levi's. I like Vineyard Vines a lot--however, the "classic fit" runs big. Like a whole size big--not that many of y'all know my size, but typically [in J. Crew], I wear a medium and I get a small in classic fit.

Hope this helps out [especially you, Amber--and it's not weird at all for you to email me, thanks for that] when looking for your average, stylish-in-his-own-way guy! I will do a unisex guide soon, too! Christmas is just a few weeks away, ya filthy animals....

until next time...

  2. I have that book Jesus Calling and it is great! Good idea!! Might have to look for those jeans. My brother requested "stylish clothes" this year but said no skinny jeans and no pink. I think he wants a nice hoodie. LOL

    1. I promise they aren't skinny, and I don't ever wear pink either...I personally just don't like the color.
I am not above a hoodie myself.... Happy shopping...

  4. This guide is awesome and fits my average styled man to a T. Although I was confused as I was looking at the picture and seen a brand. I was like WTF. Then when I read it I was like... Tim would love that since he LOVES his grill. Then I got a chuckle out of the "that's what she said". I miss that show like I miss Friends. Now to figure out where to get the brand for the hubs.
